Vitamin D3

Vitamin D3 is an essential vitamin that is involved in a whole range of different processes in the human body. Vitamin D is also known as "calciferol" and differs from other micronutrients, vitamins and trace elements in that we can only obtain it to a very limited extent from our daily diet. Instead, vitamin D3 must be produced by the human body itself through the influence of external factors. This happens when the ultraviolet UV rays emitted by the sun hit the human skin. The sun's rays activate the body's own vitamin D synthesis and the human organism can benefit fully from the vitamin. Another way to cover your vitamin D3 level is to take food supplements containing the active ingredient.

Positive effects of vitamin D3

According to scientific studies, the positive effects that an optimal vitamin D level can have are very significant. Studies have shown, for example, that vitamin D, especially in combination with the mineral calcium, plays a decisive role in maintaining stable, healthy and resilient bones and teeth (1,2,3). In addition, vitamin D3 is also needed to maintain the normal function of the body's muscles. In one study, it promoted muscle development in the study participants and also had a significant positive effect on muscular coordination in the test subjects (4). Vitamin D3 also plays an important role in general well-being and the immune system. According to research, it is involved in the normal functioning of various processes of our immune system and had a significant influence on the general well-being and mood of the participants in a scientific study (5,6).

Vitamin D3 in society

As vitamin D3 can be produced by the body itself with the help of the sun, as already described, many people logically think that a vitamin D deficiency is relatively rare in the general population. However, a large-scale study has shown the exact opposite. According to the results of the study, a significant proportion of the population in Germany suffers from a more or less pronounced vitamin D def iciency (7). This is probably due to the fact that the intensity and number of hours of sunshine are decreasing, especially in the colder months. For this reason, it is important to have your vitamin D levels checked at regular intervals. In this way, a deficiency can be ruled out or sensibly counteracted.

A vitamin D3 deficiency can lead to very different and sometimes really serious consequences (8,9). The most common symptoms normally include non-specific signs such as increased fatigue, tiredness, reduced performance, lack of motivation, depressive moods and a higher susceptibility to illnesses such as colds or flu (8). However, a more serious and longer-lasting vitamin D deficiency can even lead to a loss of skeletal bone mass under certain circumstances. One study showed that such a reduction in bone mass could sometimes result in significantly more unstable and brittle bones. Logically, such an impaired bone structure was also associated with an increased risk of injury and fracture for the people studied (8,9,10).

Vitamin D3 therefore has a major influence on health and the maintenance of many important processes in our body. However, as we are dependent on the sun for an optimal vitamin D3 level, supplementation can be particularly useful in our latitudes. As always, however, it is crucial to choose a product that is convincing in terms of both dosage and quality. Here too, GN relies on the best quality so that nothing stands in the way of an optimum effect. Vitamin D3 5000 I.U. from GN Laboratories - because in the end only results count.
