Buy individual amino acids
Not everyone needs a complex of 20 amino acids. Sometimes a single building block is enough, targeted and high-dose. That is exactly what isolated amino acids in capsule form are made for: you take only what you actually need.
With us, you will find individual amino acids in capsule form from brands such as GN Laboratories, PEAK, Biotech USA, and SCITEC Nutrition. Whether N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine, L-Tryptophan, L-Tyrosine, or Taurine: each amino acid fulfills its own task in the body.
What are individual amino acids and what are they used for?
Amino acids are the building blocks of all proteins. Your body needs around 20 of them to produce muscles, enzymes, hormones, and neurotransmitters. So these nutrients deliver far more than just material for muscle tissue. You take in many of them through your diet, above all through protein-rich foods such as meat, fish, eggs, and legumes.
The difference compared to an amino acid complex such as EAA or BCAA: there you get several essential amino acids at once. Individual amino acids, on the other hand, deliver one specific nutrient in a targeted way, without including everything else. This makes sense if you have a specific need and do not want to top up the entire amino acid pool.
Three groups are distinguished:
- Essential: The body cannot produce them itself. They must be supplied through food. These include L-Leucine, L-Isoleucine, L-Valine, L-Lysine, L-Threonine, L-Methionine, L-Phenylalanine, L-Tryptophan, and L-Histidine.
- Semi-essential (conditionally essential): The body produces them itself, but under physical strain, stress, or with certain diets, the need can exceed the body's own production. Examples: L-Tyrosine, L-Cysteine, L-Arginine, L-Glutamine, L-Proline, and L-Glycine.
- Non-essential: Usually produced by the body in sufficient amounts. Taurine and L-Ornithine fall into this category. Nevertheless, many people turn to targeted supplementation to increase their daily intake.
Which isolated amino acids are available from us?
Our range includes four individual amino acids in capsule form. Here is the overview:
| Amino acid | Products | Form | Special feature |
| N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine (NAC) | GN Laboratories 120 capsules, Big Zone 240 capsules | Capsules | Acetylated L-form for better absorption |
| L-Tyrosine | PEAK 120 capsules, Biotech USA 100 capsules | Capsules | Semi-essential amino acid |
| L-Tryptophan | PEAK 60 capsules, Biotech USA 60 capsules | Capsules | Essential amino acid |
| Taurine | SCITEC Nutrition 90 capsules | Capsules | Non-proteinogenic amino acid |
With its N-Acetyl L-Cystein, GN Laboratories delivers the best-selling single product in this category. 120 capsules of 500 mg each, without flavorings or unnecessary additives.
N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine – why is NAC in such demand?
NAC is the acetylated form of the semi-essential amino acid L-Cysteine. The body uses L-Cysteine, among other things, as a starting material for the formation of L-Glutathione, one of the most important tripeptides produced by the body.¹⁾
What sets NAC apart from regular L-Cysteine: the acetyl group. It ensures that the ingredient is more stable and can be better absorbed by the body. That is why most manufacturers rely on the NAC form instead of pure L-Cysteine.
Our best-selling NAC: The NAC from GN Laboratories contains 500 mg of N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine per capsule, with no added flavors and no flavoring agents. 120 capsules per container, made in Germany. A short ingredient list, clear labeling, nothing unnecessary.
If you prefer more capsules per container, you will also find a larger variant with 240 capsules in our range. Both products deliver NAC in the free L-form, which the body can use directly.
Demand for NAC as a dietary supplement has risen noticeably in recent years. This is not least because the connection between L-Cysteine and glutathione is becoming increasingly well known.
¹⁾ L-Cysteine is a precursor of glutathione. Glutathione is a tripeptide made up of L-Glutamic acid, L-Cysteine, and L-Glycine.
L-Tryptophan, L-Tyrosine, and Taurine at a glance
In addition to NAC, we carry three more isolated building blocks. Each has its own biochemical role in the body.
L-Tryptophan is one of the eight essential amino acids. Your body cannot produce it itself, so it must be supplied through food or through dietary supplements. L-Tryptophan serves the body as a starting material for the formation of serotonin and melatonin.²⁾ Supplementing this amino acid is particularly popular among athletes who value recovery. Tryptophan does occur in foods (e.g., in cheese, nuts, or poultry), but often in small amounts. Two products are available: PEAK Tryptophan (120 capsules) and Biotech USA L-Tryptophan (60 capsules).
L-Tyrosine is one of the semi-essential amino acids. The body produces it from L-Phenylalanine but cannot always fully cover the need, especially under high physical or mental strain. L-Tyrosine is valued by athletes who want to support their mental performance during training. Available as PEAK Tyrosin (120 capsules) and Biotech USA L-Tyrosine (100 capsules), each in the free L-form.
Taurine is, strictly speaking, not a classic amino acid but an aminosulfonic acid. The body produces taurine itself, but only in limited amounts. It is used to supplement daily intake. SCITEC Nutrition delivers taurine as capsules (90 per container).
All three products are free of unnecessary additives and come as capsules, without flavor and without flavorings. The capsule form makes intake straightforward: no weighing, no mixing, no shaker needed.
²⁾ Biochemical conversion pathway: L-Tryptophan → 5-HTP → serotonin → melatonin.
More individual amino acids: L-Arginine, L-Glutamine, Beta-Alanine, and L-Glutathione
In addition to NAC, tryptophan, tyrosine, and taurine, there are other building blocks that are frequently used in isolated form in sports nutrition. L-Arginine is one of the best-known semi-essential representatives and is popular as a pre-workout building block. L-Glutamine is the most abundant amino acid in the body and is particularly in demand among athletes after intense sessions. Beta-Alanine is a popular component of many training formulas. And L-Glutathione, the tripeptide made up of L-Cysteine, L-Glutamic acid, and L-Glycine, is increasingly offered as a standalone supplement.
Our range in this category currently focuses on the four products mentioned above.
Individual or complex – when is which worth it?
A fair question. The answer depends on what you want to achieve.
An amino acid complex such as EAA (all eight essential amino acids) or BCAA (L-Leucine, L-Isoleucine, L-Valine) makes sense if your goal is building and maintaining muscle. There you get a broad spectrum of building blocks for muscle building, in one product.
Individual amino acids as a supplement make sense when you want to supply one specific building block in a targeted way. NAC for L-Cysteine, L-Tryptophan as an essential amino acid, L-Tyrosine as a semi-essential one, Taurine as a non-proteinogenic aminosulfonic acid. No spillover, no overhead.
Many athletes combine both: an EAA complex around training and targeted single supplements as needed. One does not exclude the other, quite the opposite.
Important to know: supplementing isolated building blocks does not replace a balanced diet with protein-rich foods. It supplements where food alone is not enough, or where there is a targeted need for a specific building block.
What should you look for when buying?
Not all products in this area are the same. A few points that make the difference:
Dosage form: Capsules have the advantage that you can take them without flavor and without mixing with water. No shaker needed.
Purity: Look for products without unnecessary additives, fillers, or flavorings. The ingredient list should be short.
Manufacturer and transparency: Products from established manufacturers such as GN Laboratories or Gods Rage are produced in Germany under strict quality standards. Lab-tested and with clear labeling. If a manufacturer discloses the complete ingredient list and does without unnecessary fillers, that is a good sign.
Amount per capsule: Compare not just the price per container but the price per gram of ingredient. 120 capsules of 500 mg of NAC each are a different offer than 60 capsules of 250 mg.
