Peru balsam

Perubalsam is a dark brown, liquid balsam obtained by smoking the bark of the balsam trees (Myroxylon balsamum var. pereirae) after the end of the rainy season. Peru Balsam is used for the production of medicine.

Despite serious safety concerns, Peru balsam is used to treat cancer, to increase urine production and to eliminate worms from the intestines. Peru Balsam is sometimes applied directly to the skin for infected and poorly healing wounds, burns, pressure sores, chilblains, leg ulcers caused by poor circulation, bruising, hemorrhoids, anal itching, diaper rash, skin irritation caused by friction or perspiration, and bleeding. In industrial production, Peru Balsam is added to perfume, soap and cosmetics as a fragrance. It also helps to prevent perfume from evaporating too quickly. Peru Balsam is also used in toothpaste and toothpowder. Peru Balsam is used as a flavoring agent in foods.

How does Peru Balsam work?

PeruBalsam may help prevent the growth of bacteria and kill mites that cause scabies. It may also promote the growth of skin cells.

How effective is Peru Balm?

There is not enough scientific data to make a statement about the effectiveness of Peru Balsam taken orally for cancer, water retention and intestinal worms, and applied to the skin for wounds, burns, leg ulcers and pressure sores.

Further scientific research is needed to evaluate the effectiveness of Peru Balsam in these applications.

Safety and side effects

It is not safe to take Peru Balsam orally, as Peru Balsam can damage the kidneys.
