High-intensity interval training increases cell energy capacity
As we learned in biology class at school, mitochondria are the powerhouses of cells. The mitochondria are crucial for maintaining health and for a long, healthy life. Exercise is crucial for mitochondrial health and optimal function.
Carsten Lundby and colleagues from the University of Zurich in Switzerland found that just two weeks of high-intensity interval training improved mitochondrial function and lung function. The training consisted of six training sessions of eight to twelve repetitions lasting 60 seconds at maximum intensity on a cycle ergometer.
HIIT is an excellent way to improve fitness and promote health.
