AAKG: L-arginine in combination with alpha-ketoglutaric acid

Arginine alpha-ketoglutarate (AAKG) combines the semi-essential amino acid L-arginine with alpha-ketoglutaric acid, an intermediate product of the citrate cycle. In the body, L-arginine serves as a starting material for the synthesis of nitric oxide (NO), a signaling molecule involved in the regulation of blood vessel width. As a metabolite, alpha-ketoglutaric acid plays a role in the cell's energy metabolism.

Per gram of AAKG, about 65% is pure L-arginine. With 5 capsules containing a total of 4,000 mg AAKG, this equates to around 2,600 mg of pure L-arginine per daily dose. In comparison, the HCL form (hydrochloride) provides around 83 % pure L-arginine per gram, but does not contain an alpha-ketoglutaric acid component.

Note: The capsule shell consists of bovine gelatine. This product is not suitable for a vegan diet.

Recommended intake

The manufacturer recommends taking 5 capsules daily with sufficient liquid, preferably before training.
