Tyrosine is not an essential amino acid, which is why our body is also able to produce it from the essential amino acid phenylalanine - albeit only in very small quantities. Tyrosine is also found in its natural form in bananas, avocados and in extremely protein-rich foods such as meat, dairy products and eggs.

The body needs iodine to produce thyroxine. The hormones themselves contain 65% iodine. In geographical regions where the intake of iodine is lower, thyroid disorders occur more frequently as a direct effect. Likewise, products containing tyrosine can be used in cases of hypothyroidism (or underactive thyroid), and symptoms can also be significantly reduced if the product also contains iodine.
