Turmeric is a ginger plant from South Asia, which contains the natural curcuminoid curcumin as its active ingredient. Curcumin has been extensively studied for its health benefits and has been a component of Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine for several millennia for good reason. Curcumin is a natural antioxidant that acts as a radical scavenger to protect body cells from oxidation. Due to its supposed antioxidant properties, curcumin has aroused the interest of Western scientists, particularly in the field of liver health. Among other things, curcumin is regularly the subject of promising studies dealing with the prevention and treatment of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (fatty liver).
