What is beta-alanine?

Beta-alanine is a non-proteinogenic amino acid and the direct precursor of carnosine.¹⁾ Your body combines it with L-histidine to form carnosine, a dipeptide found mainly in your skeletal muscle, where it plays a role in regulating pH levels.²⁾ The more beta-alanine you take in, the higher your carnosine levels can rise.³⁾ Through a normal diet you only get about 50 to 300 mg per day, mainly from meat and fish. With a supplement you reach significantly higher amounts. The tingling sensation on the skin after intake (paresthesia) is a well-known and harmless side effect.⁴⁾

What's inside the tub?

Open the tub and you'll see a white, fine, odorless powder with a neutral taste. No granules, no capsule shells, no colored particles. Inside is a single ingredient from GN Laboratories: pure beta-alanine. One scoop delivers 3,000 mg, ten to sixty times what you get from a meal. With a 500 g package size, that gives you over 166 servings.

Many products on the market contain anti-caking agents, flow agents or flavors in addition to the actual amino acid. The ingredient list of this powder shows exactly one ingredient. Every batch is tested by independent laboratories before the product goes on sale with us.

This beta-alanine powder also has a practical advantage over capsules: you adjust your daily serving to the exact gram, start low and increase step by step. At a daily amount of 3 g, you only need one scoop instead of three to four capsules. The powder can be stirred directly into your shake or pre-workout drink.

Who is this supplement suitable for?

Strength athletes: You train with heavy weights and short rest periods between sets. That's exactly when the pH level in your muscle fibers drops the fastest. Beta-alanine is the precursor of carnosine, which plays a role in pH regulation there.²⁾ Levels build up over two to four weeks of daily intake.³⁾ That's why you take this powder every day, not just before training.

Endurance athletes: The amino acid is only for strength athletes? Carnosine is also found in the slow-twitch muscle fibers that do the main work during long efforts.²⁾ This powder gives you the amino acid in pure form, without caffeine and without additives, so your stomach can handle the long distance.

Beginners: If you don't yet know how your body responds to individual ingredients, it's best to start with a single amino acid. Dose to the exact gram with the scoop and adjust the amount step by step. The tingling on the skin feels unusual at first but noticeably fades after one to two weeks.⁴⁾

How to use the powder correctly

Before training: Mix 3 g (1 heaping scoop) into 200 ml of water or your shake. Ideally 20 to 30 minutes before your training session.

On rest days: The same amount, preferably in the morning with a meal.

Beginner protocol: Start with 1.5 g per day in the first week. From week two, increase to the full daily amount of 3 g. This also makes the tingling milder at the start.

Combining with other supplements: Many athletes take the amino acid together with creatine, L-citrulline or L-arginine. All supplements can easily be mixed in the same shake.

NanoPure® quality: pure without compromise

The ingredient in this powder is hygroscopic; it draws moisture from the air. Many manufacturers therefore add silicon dioxide as a flow aid to keep the powder from clumping. This supplement completely avoids that. Instead, the production process and packaging ensure the powder stays dry and free-flowing, entirely without additives.

The entire production takes place in Germany under GMP, HACCP and IFS standards. Every batch is tested by independent laboratories for purity, heavy metals and microbiological contamination before it goes on sale with us.

Frequently asked questions about Beta-Alanine

Is the tingling sensation with beta-alanine dangerous?

No. The tingling sensation (paraesthesia) is a well-known and harmless side effect. It is caused by the activation of sensory nerve endings in the skin and subsides completely after 30 to 60 minutes. If you want to reduce the tingling sensation, divide the daily amount into two smaller portions.

Is beta alanine useful?

The carnosine precursor is one of the most frequently used ingredients in sports nutrition. Whether the supplement fits into your routine depends on your training goal and your existing supplementation. As a pure mono powder, it provides you with exactly one ingredient without any extras.

Powder or capsules - which is better?

The powder offers the advantage of a flexible daily portion. You start low and increase gradually. Capsules are more practical for on the go, but limit you to the pre-dosed amount. At 3 g per day, you need three to four capsules and one measuring spoon with the powder.

Can I combine the amino acid with creatine?

Yes, many athletes take both supplements at the same time. You can mix them in the same shake. There is no known interaction.

Is this product vegan?

Yes, this supplement is 100% vegan and contains no animal ingredients. It is suitable for all diets.

What does the amino acid have to do with carnosine?

The amino acid is a direct precursor of carnosine. In the body, it combines with L-histidine to form carnosine, which is mainly found in skeletal muscles. The available amount of the ingredient determines how much carnosine can be formed.
