What are green tea extract capsules?

Green tea comes from the plant Camellia sinensis and has been consumed as a beverage for centuries, especially in China. Unlike black tea, it is not fermented, which preserves a large portion of the natural compounds in the leaves ¹⁾.

Green tea extract capsules contain these plant compounds in concentrated form. Instead of drinking several cups a day, you take the extract as a capsule. The advantage: in a standardized extract, the content of polyphenols and catechins is precisely defined and identical in every batch. Polyphenols are secondary plant compounds found in numerous plants. In the tea leaf, they make up the largest share of the bioactive constituents ²⁾.

EGCG: the most-studied catechin

EGCG stands for epigallocatechin gallate and is the catechin present in the largest quantity in green tea ³⁾. No other constituent of the tea plant has been researched as intensively over the past decades.

The EGCG capsules from GN Laboratories deliver 550 mg of this catechin per daily serving. The extract is standardized to 55 % EGCG. For comparison: most products on the market work with a standardization of 40 to 50 %. Per capsule, you therefore get a higher share of the lead compound than with many alternative products.

In addition to EGCG, the extract contains other catechins as well as naturally occurring caffeine and the amino acid L-theanine ⁴⁾.

Green TEA relies on a purist formula: one extract, one capsule, no extras. If you want to supplement EGCG specifically, you get the higher dose per daily serving here with less intake effort.

Who are green tea capsules suitable for?

Capsules with green tea are used by very different people:

At six in the morning before strength training, nobody has time to brew tea. Two pieces with your shake, done. Fits in any gym bag, zero effort.

Health-conscious women and men know the problem: four cups of tea a day sound good, but fail because of meetings and a full desk. This dietary supplement delivers the daily dose of polyphenols, whether in your handbag or backpack ⁵⁾.

Regular tea drinkers also reach for the capsule. The reason: the polyphenol content per cup varies depending on steeping time, water temperature, and tea variety. In the extract, the content is standardized in every serving.

Intake and recommended use

Take 2 capsules daily with plenty of fluid. The best time is in the morning or before training, since the extract contains naturally occurring caffeine. Taking it in the evening is less suitable if you are sensitive to caffeine.

Our tip: Do not take the capsules on a completely empty stomach, but with a small meal or a shake. In our experience, this is how the stomach tolerates the extract best.

Quality and manufacturing

Green TEA from GN Laboratories is manufactured in Germany. The formula is deliberately kept minimalist: green tea extract, a plant-based HPMC capsule shell, and rice flour as an anti-caking agent. Magnesium stearate, silicon dioxide, or other technical excipients are not included.

The standardization to 55 % EGCG is achieved through a gentle extraction process in which the catechins are selectively released from the tea leaves. Unnecessary fillers or technical excipients are not used.

The plant-based HPMC capsule makes the product 100 % vegan.

Frequently asked questions about Green TEA

Is the green tea extract highly dosed?

Yes, with 1,000 mg extract and 550 mg EGCG per daily serving, Green TEA is one of the higher-dose products on the market. The 55 % EGCG standardization is above the industry average of 40 to 50 %.

Do the Green Tea capsules contain caffeine?

Yes, green tea naturally contains caffeine. The exact amount varies slightly, but is in the range of one to two cups of brewed tea. If you are sensitive to caffeine, we recommend taking it in the morning.

Are the capsules vegan?

Yes, the capsule shell consists of HPMC (hydroxypropyl methylcellulose), a plant-based coating agent. The entire product contains no animal ingredients.

How does green tea extract differ from brewed tea?

The extract is much more concentrated. Two capsules contain the polyphenol content of several cups of brewed tea. In addition, the EGCG content in the extract is standardized, whereas in brewed tea it varies depending on brewing time, water temperature and type of tea.

When is the best time to take it?

In the morning or before training. Due to the caffeine it contains, we recommend that you do not take the capsules after 4 pm if you want to relax in the evening.
