Creatine capsules or powder: which suits you?
GN Tera Caps and NanoPure: compare quantities, handling and cost on the same basis.
For your training routine, you can choose creatine as a powder or in capsules. Powder needs to be measured and mixed into a drink; capsules are pre-portioned and taken with liquid. Handling, the ingredient, quantity and cost all matter: two packs labelled “100 servings” can contain very different amounts of creatine monohydrate. This comparison of GN Tera Caps and NanoPure shows you how to assess them on the same basis.
Key takeaways
- Measure powder and stir it into a drink; capsules are pre-portioned and taken with plenty of liquid.
- NanoPure: 5 g of monohydrate per daily serving. Tera Caps: 2 to 3 capsules providing 2.2 to 3.3 g. Follow each product’s directions.
- Compare the price for the same amount of monohydrate. Equal serving counts do not automatically mean equal quantities.
Compare creatine monohydrate, not just capsules or scoops
Creatine monohydrate can be sold as loose powder or filled into capsules. The chemical form (monohydrate) and the dosage form (capsule or powder) are separate characteristics. Both GN products compared here contain monohydrate. Creatine monohydrate is the most extensively studied form of creatine, as discussed in the review by Antonio et al. (2021).
GN Tera Caps contain 200 capsules per tub. The composition states that 2 capsules provide 2,200 mg of creatine monohydrate, or 1,100 mg per capsule. The shell is made from hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC). This shell material alone does not tell you about certification, ingredient purity or absorption speed.
GN NanoPure creatine monohydrate contains 500 g of powder with no other ingredients. The manufacturer specifies a fineness of 200 mesh. This describes the fineness of the powder; it does not demonstrate better absorption by the body.
An often overlooked point: the mass of creatine monohydrate is not identical to the mass of creatine without its water of crystallisation. Monohydrate contains approximately 87.9% pure creatine (Antonio et al. 2021). So 3.3 g of monohydrate is not 3.3 g of pure creatine. Throughout this article, calculations use the amount of monohydrate because that is what both product labels declare.
GN Tera Caps and NanoPure: comparing quantities
| Factor | GN NanoPure (powder) | GN Tera Caps (capsules) |
|---|---|---|
| Pack contents | 500 g of powder | 200 capsules |
| Monohydrate per unit | 5 g per weighed serving of powder | 1.1 g per capsule |
| Manufacturer’s directions | 5 g daily in water, juice or a shake | 2 to 3 capsules daily with plenty of liquid |
| Monohydrate per daily serving | 5 g | 2.2 g (2 capsules) to 3.3 g (3 capsules) |
| Calculated number of days | 100 days | 100 days at 2 capsules; 66 days with 2 capsules left at 3 capsules |

The daily servings provide different amounts of monohydrate: 5 g from NanoPure and 2.2 to 3.3 g from Tera Caps. At 3 capsules daily, the tub provides 66 complete daily servings, with 2 capsules left. These figures are calculated from the pack contents and product directions, not a recommendation to make the amounts match.
Everyday use: mix or swallow?
Measuring and mixing creatine powder
Measure the powder and stir it into a suitable drink, then clean the container. If you already prepare a shake, NanoPure’s product directions allow you to use it in that shake. Suitable scales help you measure accurately in grams: a scoop measures volume, and different powders do not necessarily weigh the same in it.
Taking creatine capsules with liquid
Capsules are easy to take with you in pre-portioned amounts. The directions for Tera Caps specify 2 to 3 capsules daily with plenty of liquid. You do not need a shaker or spoon. If you dislike swallowing capsules, this form offers little extra convenience. The number of capsules also does not tell you how many separate times a day you need to take them.
How to compare prices on the same basis
To see which offer costs less, compare the same amount of monohydrate. You need the current pack price and the total declared amount of monohydrate in the pack.
NanoPure contains 500 g of monohydrate. Tera Caps contain 200 × 1.1 g = 220 g of monohydrate. The weight of the HPMC capsule shell is not part of the amount of monohydrate.
Comparing prices for an equal quantity
Cost per 100 g of monohydrate = pack price ÷ total monohydrate in grams × 100
For the powder: pack price ÷ 500 × 100. For the capsules: pack price ÷ 220 × 100. Enter the current prices to compare them on the same basis.
The cost per manufacturer’s daily serving answers a different question because the amounts differ. For NanoPure, calculate pack price ÷ 100. For Tera Caps, 2 capsules also cost pack price ÷ 100, while 3 capsules cost pack price × 3 ÷ 200. This calculation accounts for the 2 capsules left in the tub.
Three questions to help you decide
What ingredient and amount does the label state? Both GN examples contain creatine monohydrate. Compare the declared amount per capsule or serving of powder. The serving count printed on the pack alone is not enough.
Do you want to measure and mix, or swallow capsules? An existing shake routine may favour powder. If you prefer not to mix a drink when you are out and can swallow capsules comfortably, the pre-portioned form may fit your routine better.
What is the price for the same amount of monohydrate, and how much do you value convenience? Enter the current prices in the formula. Include shipping costs or offers only when they apply to your actual order. The cheaper purchase and the more convenient option need not be the same choice.
Read the full ingredients list. A capsule shell is necessary for this dosage form and is not automatically a quality defect. An ingredient seal such as Creapure is a separate consideration from powder versus capsules. Only attribute such a seal to a product when it is specifically stated.
