Panax pseudoginseng
Panax pseudoginseng is a plant whose root is used to make medicine. Panax pseudoginseng should not be confused with other forms of ginseng such as Panax ginseng. Panax pseudoginseng is used to stop or reduce bleeding. Sometimes Panax pseudoginseng is used by people who suffer from nosebleeds, cough or vomit blood, or find blood in their stool or urine. Panax pseudoginseng is also used to relieve pain, reduce swelling, lower cholesterol levels and lower blood pressure. It is also used for chest pain, angina, stroke, dizziness and sore throat.
Some people apply Panax pseudoginseng directly to the skin to stop bleeding.
In combination with seven other plants (PC-SPES), Panax pseudoginseng is used to treat prostate cancer.
How does Panax pseudoginseng work?
Panaxpseudoginseng may relax the blood vessels, which would improve blood flow and lower blood pressure. There is not enough information about how Panax pseudoginseng might work for prostate cancer and other diseases.
How effective is Panax pseudoginseng?
There is not enough scientific data to make a statement about the effectiveness of Panax pseudoginseng for bleeding, stroke, pain, swelling, high cholesterol, chest pain, angina, high blood pressure, dizziness, sore throat and prostate cancer, as well as when used to improve circulation.
Further scientific research is needed to evaluate the effectiveness of Panax pseudoginseng in these applications.
Safety and side effects
There is not enough information on whether Panax pseudoginseng is safe and harmless. It may cause some side effects such as dry mouth, redness of the skin, nervousness, sleep problems, nausea and vomiting.
Precautions and warnings
Pregnancy and lactation: Panax pseudoginseng should not be used during pregnancy and lactation as it is not safe and harmless. One of the chemicals contained in Panax pseudoginseng has caused birth defects in laboratory animals.
Hormone-sensitive conditions such as breast cancer, uterine cancer, ovarian cancer and endometriosis: There is evidence that Panax pseudoginseng may act like estrogen. Therefore, if you suffer from a disease that could be aggravated by oestrogen, you should not use Panax pseudoginseng.

At this time, there is no information on interactions of Panax pseudoginseng with medications or supplements.

At the present time, there is insufficient scientific data to make a statement about appropriate dosage ranges for Panax pseudoginseng.
