Geranium maculatum
The cranesbill, also known by its Latin name Geranium maculatum, is a plant that grows in North America. The root and the whole plant are used to make medicine. Cranesbill is used for diarrhea, cholera, digestive problems, irritable bowel syndrome, pressure sores and gum disease. Cranesbill is sometimes applied directly to the affected areas for skin lesions, bleeding ulcers, hemorrhoids, vaginal discharge and fungal infections.
How does cranesbill work?
Cranesbill contains chemicals known as tannins. These tannins have a drying effect and may be useful for conditions such as diarrhea.
How effective is cranesbill?
There is not enough scientific data to make a statement about the effectiveness of cranesbill products taken orally for diarrhea, cholera, digestive problems, irritable bowel syndrome, pressure sores and gum disease, and of cranesbill products applied to the skin for skin lesions, bleeding ulcers, hemorrhoids, vaginal discharge and fungal infections. Further scientific research is needed to evaluate the effectiveness of cranesbill products in these applications.

There is not enough information to say whether cranesbill products are safe and harmless or what side effects cranesbill may have.
Precautions and warnings
Pregnancy and lactation: Not enough is known about the use of cranesbill products during pregnancy and lactation. For this reason, pregnant and breastfeeding women should avoid using cranesbill products.
Interactions
There is currently no information on interactions between cranesbill products and medications or supplements.

An appropriate dosage of cranesbill products depends on various factors such as age, state of health and others.
