Dimethylglycine

Dimethylglycine is an amino acid that is found in the body in very small quantities and only for a few seconds at a time. Dimethylglycine is used by some people as a medicine for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), epilepsy, chronic fatigue syndrome, allergies, respiratory disorders, pain and inflammatory swelling, cancer, alcoholism and drug addiction. It is also used to improve speech and behavior in autism, nervous system function, liver function, the body's use of oxygen and athletic performance. Some people use dimethylglycine to reduce stress and the effects of aging and to improve the function of the immune system in fighting infections. Dimethylglycine is also used to lower blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels and to bring blood pressure and blood sugar into a normal range

How effective is dimethylglycine?

Dimethylglycine may be effective when used to improve athletic performanceand may be ineffective in the treatment of epilepsy and autism. There is insufficient scientific data to conclude on the effectiveness of dimethylglycine for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), cancer, chronic fatigue syndrome, stress, allergies, respiratory problems, alcoholism, drug addiction, high blood pressure and high cholesterol, and when used to improve immune function. Further scientific research is needed to evaluate the effectiveness of dimethylglycine in these applications.

Safety and side effects

Dimethylglycine appears to be safe for short-term use for up to 28 days. The safety of long-term use is not known.

Precautions and warnings

Pregnancy and lactation: Not enough is known about the use of dimethylglycine during pregnancy and lactation. For this reason, pregnant and breastfeeding women should avoid dimethylglycine.

Interactions

There is currently no information on interactions between dimethylglycine and medications or supplements.

Dosage

An appropriate dosage of dimethylglycine depends on various factors such as age, state of health and others. At the present time, there is insufficient scientific data to make a statement about appropriate dosage ranges for dimethylglycine. For this reason, you should follow the dosage instructions on the label and/or consult a doctor or pharmacist before use.
