L-carnitine is a nonessential amino acid that your body can produce from the amino acids lysine and metionin by itself - at least in certain amounts. However, this production can be sufficient to meet an increased demand for carnitine, as it can be the case with intensively exercising athletes.
L-carnitine is involved in a number of important processes in your body.
