    What is green tea?

For thousands of years, green tea has been an integral part of traditional Chinese medicine and has long been used in Asia to improve well-being and treat many diseases. Green tea differs from black tea in that it does not undergo any fermentation process during production. During the fermentation of black tea numerous oxidation processes occur, which destroy most of the health-promoting polyphenols occurring naturally in the tea leaves. Since green tea is not fermented, it contains a wide range of polyphenols and flavonoids, which are primarily responsible for the health promoting effects of green tea.

The most famous and probably most effective one of these polyphenols is the catechin epigallocatechingallate (EGCG). Our green tea extract has a guaranteed content of 50% polyphenols due to its special manufacturing process, making sure you will profit maximally of the benefits of green tea. In addition to these active phytonutrients, green tea contains important trace elements such as iron, fluorine, zinc, chromium and manganese, as well as important vitamins such as vitamin C, vitamin A and vitamins of the vitamin B complex.

In addition, green tea contains caffeine and therefore develops a mild, but noticeable stimulating effect. The theanine contained in green tea enhances the effects of caffeine on perception and attention, while preventing unwanted side effects such as restlessness and nervousness.

What are the health benefits of green tea?

It would be easy to write a whole book about the health benefits of green tea - and new positive effects are continually being discovered in the field of medical research. At this point, we will concentrate on the most important health benefits. The catechins contained in green tea extract have very pronounced antioxidant effects, which are up to 100 to 200 times stronger than the antioxidant effects of vitamins C and E, which are known as potent antioxidants. This allows green tea to effectively protect cells and DNA from damage by free radicals. Free radicals are associated with the development of numerous diseases, ranging from cardiovascular diseases to degenerative changes of the brain and cancer. In addition, elevated levels of free radicals are one of the most important triggers for a premature aging of your body. This makes green tea to a potent anti-aging supplement. Scientific studies with older people have shown that green tea can improve the control of body functions and mental abilities such as memory performance and concentration. The latter is attributed to the fact that the active ingredients of green tea promote the development of new brain stem cells, which can be converted into different brain and nerve cells.

Green tea can also have positive effects on your cardiovascular health and significantly reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases, heart attacks and stroke. This is - among other things - due to the fact that green tea is able to lower the levels of unhealthy LDL cholesterol, while at the same time increasing the levels of healthy HDL cholesterol. In addition to this, green tea counteracts the development and progress of arteriosclerosis, as it promotes health and elasticity of the blood vessels and counteracts calcification of the veins. Arteriosclerosis and other degenerative joint diseases are another area in which green tea can shine. This has to do with the anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving effects of active ingredients in green tea that can also block enzymes responsible for a degradation of the articular cartilage. All of this can help alleviate joint problems and reduce joint swelling. Since the catechins contained in green tea inhibit the growth of tumour cells and counteract the formation of metastases, a green tea extract can reduce the risk for a whole range of forms of cancer and may support conventional cancer treatment synergistically.

How can green tea promote weight loss and fat reduction?

Green tea and green tea extracts are becoming increasingly popular as a means of supporting weight and fat loss. This is based on a whole range of mechanisms that can speed up fat loss and help to maintain a low body fat percentage. These effects are attested by a large number of human studies which also show that green tea extracts are free from all of the harmful side effects that are associated with many classic fat loss drugs and fatburners. The first of these mechanisms is an increased metabolic rate, which means that your body burns significantly more calories even at rest. In addition to this, green tea stimulates fat oxidation and causes the body to use more fatty acids as energy supply. This will not only increase fat breakdown, but also protect the muscles' glycogen stores during a calorie reduced diet. This also means that your physical performance during a fat loss diet will be less severely affected than usual and that you will be able to perform more intensive workouts to protect your existing muscle mass and increase your calorie consumption maximally.

In addition, green tea inhibits the activity of an enzyme that is responsible for the degradation of the endogenous fat-reducing catecholamines epinephrine and norepinephrine, resulting in higher levels of these catecholamines. As a result, green tea can effectively counteract a diet-related reduction of your metabolic rate and prevent stagnations of your fat-loss progress. Apart from promoting the usage of body fat as energy source, green tea can also significantly reduce the absorption of fat in your digestive tract and the storage of fat in your fat cells, which means that some of the fat you consume is excreted undigested. As green tea reduces increases of your blood glucose levels after a meal and thus can also lower the amount of insulin secreted by your pancreas, it can prevent hunger and cravings because of strong fluctuations in blood glucose levels. Lower levels of insulin also result in less storage of nutrients form of fat in your fat cells. Interestingly, studies have shown that green tea extracts can increase fat loss especially in the abdominal area. This can not only accelerate the development of a visible six-pack, but will also promote your health as an increased fat accumulation in the abdominal area is associated with a greatly increased risk of cardiovascular diseases and Type 2 diabetes.
