The branched-chain amino acids, also known as BCAAs, include the three essential amino acids leucine, isoleucine and valine. BCAAs are very popular with athletes and bodybuilders in particular, because amongst other things these amino acids are capable of activating and stimulating the muscle protein synthesis, resulting in increased gains of fat free muscle mass and an effective protection against any diet-induced muscle loss.
According to recent scientific findings, the branched chain amino acid leucine is primarily responsible for the activation of the muscle protein synthesis by BCAAs. Leucine activates an enzyme called mTOR, which triggers a cascade of processes that ultimately activate and increase your muscle protein synthesis. The extremely important role of leucine for the activation of muscle protein synthesis is the reason why we use an innovative 8:1:1 BCAA ratio that provides maximum amounts of leucine, instead of using the classical 2:1:1 ratio of the amino acids leucine, isoleucine and valine.
Scientific studies have shown that a leucine serving of 4 to 5 grams causes a maximum stimulation of the muscle protein synthesis and that larger amounts do not have additional benefits. Since we do not want to leave anything to chance, each serving of GN Laboratories BCAA XTEND 8:1:1 contains exactly this maximum effective amount of 5 grams of leucine.

Citrulline is one of the most effective supplements for increasing the body's nitric oxide (NO) production and citrulline is far more effective than all arginine-based nitric oxide boosters. At the same time, citrulline is completely safe since citrulline is a naturally occurring amino acid that is involved in many processes inside the human body.
Citrulline causes an increase in nitric oxide production via the so-called l-arginine -nitric oxide synthase - nitric oxide pathway that converts arginine into nitric oxide by means of the enzyme endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS). Although arginine is the active substance responsible for this process, the usage of citrulline to stimulate a greater nitric oxide production is much more effective, since orally ingested arginine is almost completely broken down by the liver, before it can reach the bloodstream, while citrulline is converted into arginine in the kidneys after passing the liver. Because of this, orally ingested citrulline increases the arginine levels in the body to a greater extend than orally ingested arginine.
Nitric oxide produced in the endothelial cells of the blood vessels relaxes the smooth muscles of the veins, resulting in an expansion of the blood vessels and an increased supply of blood to your muscles, as more blood can flow through a dilated vein within a shorter period of time.
