Betaine is an amino acid that is naturally occurring in some foods such as beets, quinoa, spinach, and wheat germ. It is used by these plants to protect their cells from stress and strain. What are the advantages of betaine for hard-training athletes and bodybuilders?

If you look at the human studies conducted with trained athletes, it quickly becomes obvious that betaine has an enormous potential. These studies have shown that betaine can significantly increase muscle strength and endurance in both strength and endurance athletes (7, 8). How and when should you take Betaine?

  • Accompanying treatment of diseases of the liver: 1000 to 2000 mg three times a day
  • Digestive support: 650 to 2000 mg per day

Because betaine can promote your body’s protein synthesis and reduce catabolic cortisol levels, is should be used both before and after exercise for maximum results. Betaine should also be used on rest days. A cyclical application is not necessary as the beneficial effects of betaine do not diminish over time and because betaine is completely safe.
